The Nikon D7500 uses the Nikon EN-EL 15A battery that allows you to take around 950 shots before charging it.

Why would you want to have more than 1 battery? Because they can fail; it’s not common, but if it happens you have no other to take pictures.

For traveling, weddings or any long photo shoots, you’ll want at least 1 more extra battery. If you only take pictures once a year, then this investment is not worth it, but if photography is a big hobby/job to you, it’s a must have. Plus, it’s good if you get those random bursts of motivation to take pictures, but can’t wait 2-3 hours in case your only battery is empty at the moment. Using a flash on your camera is good, but using it off-camera is even better. The Altura Photo Flash Trigger allows you to fire your external flash up to 100 feet (30m) away from the camera!

This results in much better control over light, softer shadows, nicer colors etc. It’s great for sports, portraits, studio and pretty much anything you can think of.

7. Battery Grip: Vello BG-N18 Battery Grip for Nikon D7500

There is no official D7500 battery grip from Nikon but the Vello BG-N18 Battery Grip for Nikon D7500 is a solid choice.

It’s super affordable, lightweight and made mostly of plastic. For some the feel may seem a bit off, but the cost savings for most will off-set that.

It’s well made, works with the same Nikon EN-EL 15A batteries mentioned above, and does what it’s supposed to. So while it may not feel like a high-end battery grip it does what it’s supposed to for a very reasonable price which gives it a high value.

Since this is not from Nikon the camera might sometimes tell you that the batteries are not compatible, in which case you simply take them out and try once more. Seeing as Nikon didn’t make a grip for the D7500, this is something you will have to live with. However, Vello has done a lot of testing both in the lab and in the field to determine it’s compatibility.

Why get a battery grip in the first place?

• Battery grips add stability and size to your overall camera setup.
• If you find the Nikon D7500 too small/light with your lenses, and/or often shoot sports and wildlife, it will help a lot.
• You can insert 2 batteries and simply double your shooting time.
• Vertical photography is easier thanks to another shutter button + extra buttons/dials

The obvious improvement is the added size and stability, especially when using bigger lenses. If you are into sports/telephoto photography, your overall system will balance much better, allowing you to get less blurry shots.

The second, and probably the most important, is the fact that you double your shooting time. The D7500 already has a good battery life, but if you’re out there shooting long events or are traveling, you will appreciate any extra power you can get.

Lastly, shooting in vertical is much easier since the grip itself has an extra shutter button, as well as other important dials and buttons you can find on the camera itself.
