If you want to get an in-depth look at what to look for in a memory card read out post on How to Choose a Memory Card.
What to Look for in a Memory Card
Our favorite brands are Sandisk, Lexar, Transcend, Sony, PNY and Kingston because they have proven over time to be reliable.
Regardless of what brand or size card you select you really should consider getting at least two cards.
Remember that memory cards are not the same as some priceless heirloom. They are not meant to last forever.
The good thing is, they also don’t cost as much as a heirloom. So don’t worry about trying to pass them along to your posterity in your will. And just spend a little bit more to get an extra one.
Another common question is “How many shots can you store on a 32GB memory card?”, or “What about a 128GB card?” Of course that depends on whether you are shooting in JPEG or RAW, or both. Scandisk has a great little table to give you an idea of how much space you’ll want to plan on.
