Best Canon 6D Accessories

by Nick Voorhees on January 19, 2018

Below you will find our most recommended accessories for the Canon 6D.

It was released back in 2012, which means there are a lot of useful items available for it. We looked through a ton of them, and removed the ones that didn’t work, or may cause too many issues.

These 7 accessories below are perfect regardless of what type of photography you are into, since they’re so versatile. You can also consider these as great gifts for a fellow photographer!

1. Memory Card – SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro 95MB/s

The SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro is hands down the best memory card available right now, and has been for more than a few years. The Canon 6D supports a maximum of UHS-I speed, and since this card is UHS-I, this means that you will get the best performance out of it.

It’s super fast, reliable and has more than enough capacity for thousands of shots and Full HD videos. SanDisk has always been number one brand for memory cards and their affordable 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models are too cheap to not get. Check out our list of best memory cards for 6D to see the full selection.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

2. Battery – Canon LP-E6N

The Canon 6D uses the Canon LP-E6 battery which has a good life with around 1100 shots on a single charge. However, if you take pictures almost everyday, you’ll want at least 2 batteries.

For traveling, weddings or any long photo shoots, having more than 1 is a must. Batteries can fail (rare, but better to be safe), and you should be prepared for this. If you only take pictures once a year, then this investment is not worth it, but if photography is a big hobby/job to you, you’ll allow yourself to worry less when taking pictures when you won’t have the time to wait 2-3 hours for a full charge.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

3. Flash – Neewer TT560

There’s no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a flash, especially if you have no experience with one yet! The Neewer TT560 is perfect, affordable (costs under $50) and has plenty of useful features.

First, it will work with many different models of cameras, which includes Canon, Nikon, Sony and more. It can rotate vertically (90 degrees) and horizontally (270 degrees), so you’re free to use it for bouncing the light from a reflector or something similar. On top of that, it has a slave mode so it can fire simultaneously with other flash units.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

4. Tripod – Zomei 55″ Compact Tripod

For landscape, architecture, studio and night time photography, you need a tripod. The Zomei 55″ is affordable and provides good height, support and max load. As soon as you start shooting with slow shutter speeds (below 1/30) you will want one, as tripods are the only way to get sharp results.

The Zomei 55″ extrends to a maximum of 4.92ft (150cm), weighs 2.6Lb (1.2kg) and supports a max weight of 11Lb (5kg). It’s made of aluminium alloy and is compact to carry around.

If you want to shoot fireworks or do some light painting, you also need a tripod.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

5. Light Reflector – Neewer 43″ 5-in-1 Collapsible Light Reflector

Are you into portrait/wedding photography? Besides a good flash, you’ll want to have the Neewer 5-in-1 Light Reflector that allows you to bounce the light from white, silver, gold or black surfaces.

Even if you don’t have a flash, you can bounce the sun light nicely onto your subject and achieve much more professional looking shots, with warm colors. Alternatively, you can use it for product photography. It costs less than $20 and is truly worth it. Since the 6D has a great full frame sensor for portrait photography, this is an excellent addition!

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

6. Wireless Flash + Shutter Trigger – Altura Photo Flash Trigger

Using a flash on your camera is good, but using it off the camera is even better. The Altura Photo Flash Trigger allows you to fire your external flash up to 100 feet (30m) away from the camera!

This results in much better control over light, softer shadows, nicer colors etc. It’s great for sports, portraits, studio and pretty much anything you can think of.

Extra feature: This trigger also servers as a wireless flash trigger, which means you can take pictures without being next to the camera (with or without a flash). Here’s a Youtube tutorial on using both modes.

It’s compatible with every Canon DSLR since you simply attach one part to the hot-shoe, and attach the other to your flash. You are then free to move up to ~100 feet and take pictures.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

7. Battery Grip – Canon BG-E13

Canon makes a battery grip for almost all of their cameras, and the 6D uses the Canon BG-E13.

These are the 3 most common reasons why people get a grip:

  • 2 x Battery slots, meaning you can double your shooting time (or 6 x AA)
  • If you find the 6D too light/small and want better overall grip and stability
  • If you often shoot vertically and want to have a 2nd shutter button on the grip (better for vertical photography)

The grip also sports a few buttons you can find on the back of the camera. There are third-party versions but there’s a much higher risk of damaging your camera. The BG-E18 is definitely worth it, for any of those 3 reasons we provided.

You can buy it at Amazon.
